About This Court
Queens County Supreme Court handles major civil cases and felony criminal matters at the Sutphin Boulevard courthouse complex.
Queens Supreme Court has separate court reporter contacts for civil matters, the criminal main building, and the criminal annex. You must identify which reporter pool your case belongs to. Queens has a large caseload but the three-line phone system for reporters makes it more accessible than Manhattan's setup.
All proceedings are stenographically recorded. No audio recordings are available. The stenographic transcript is the sole official record.
Who Can Request
Parties and their attorneys may request transcripts. Non-parties may request transcripts of unsealed civil matters, subject to judicial approval. Defendants, defense counsel, and prosecutors have access to criminal transcripts.
What You Can Request
- Certified transcript: Yes. Official transcripts are available.
- Audio copy: No. Audio recordings are not provided to litigants.
- On-site listening: Not available.
Recording method: Stenographic (court reporter)
What You Need (Data Checklist)
- Case name and index/docket number
- Date(s) of the proceeding
- Judge's name and courtroom/part (if known)
- Your contact information (name, phone, address)
Court-Specific Process
- Determine whether your case is civil, criminal (main), or criminal (annex), and contact the appropriate reporter's office by phone, mail, or in person.
- Provide the index number (civil) or indictment number (criminal), the hearing/trial date, and the judge's name or part.
- The reporter's office routes your request to the specific court reporter who recorded the proceeding.
- The reporter produces the transcript; you pay the statutory per-page rate and receive the document by mail or pickup.
Fees & Timing
Statutory rates apply ($1.00-$1.75 per page for ordinary copies; expedited and daily copy cost more). Queens turnaround is typically several weeks. Inquire with the court about poor person relief if cost is a concern.
Common Pitfalls
- Calling the wrong reporter's office; Queens has three separate numbers for civil, criminal main, and criminal annex.
- Not knowing whether your criminal case was heard in the main building or the annex, which delays routing.
- Providing the case caption but not the index or indictment number; the reporter's office needs the number to locate records efficiently.
Before You Submit
- Identify whether your case is civil, criminal (main), or criminal (annex) and note the corresponding reporter's office phone number.
- Gather the index or indictment number, hearing date, and judge's name or part before reaching out.
- If you need a transcript for appeal purposes, begin the request process immediately after sentencing or judgment.
