About This Court
Bronx County Housing Court handles landlord-tenant disputes, eviction proceedings, and housing conditions cases under RPAPL Article 7.
The Bronx has one of the highest volumes of housing cases in the city, driven by a large renter population. All Housing Court proceedings are digitally recorded, and free audio copies are available. The high caseload means the audio records office processes many requests, so plan for possible wait times when visiting in person.
All proceedings are digitally recorded. Audio copies are free of charge. You may listen onsite at the courthouse or bring your own USB drive to obtain a copy. For a written transcript, the audio must be sent to an OCA-approved transcription vendor.
Who Can Request
Any party to the case (landlords, tenants, attorneys) and members of the public may request audio recordings or transcripts. You must provide the case index number and hearing date to identify the recording.
What You Can Request
- Certified transcript: Yes. Official transcripts are available.
- Audio copy: Yes. Audio listening copies may be available.
- On-site listening: Yes. You may request to listen to the recording at the courthouse.
Recording method: Digital audio recording
What You Need (Data Checklist)
- Case name and index/docket number
- Date(s) of the proceeding
- Judge's name and courtroom/part (if known)
- Your contact information (name, phone, address)
- Selected transcription vendor from the approved list
Court-Specific Process
- Complete the Request for Audio Record form (CIV-LT-90) with the index number, hearing date, and judge/part information.
- Submit the form by mail or in person at the Bronx Housing Court audio records office.
- For audio copies, bring a USB drive to the courthouse; staff will copy the recording at no charge. For onsite listening, request a time slot.
- For a written transcript, select a vendor from the OCA-approved list; the court will forward the audio, and the vendor will contact you with pricing.
Fees & Timing
Audio copies are free and typically available within a few business days. Transcripts produced by vendors cost $1.00-$3.50 per page and take 30-60 days for standard delivery. Fee waivers for transcript costs are available through the UCS poor person application.
Common Pitfalls
- Visiting the audio records office without a USB drive; the court will not provide media, so you must bring your own storage device.
- Requesting a transcript when an audio copy would suffice; if you just need to review what was said, the free audio option saves significant time and money.
- Not accounting for the Bronx's high case volume when planning your visit; the audio records office can be busy, especially on court days.
Before You Submit
- Have your case index number and the specific hearing date(s) ready before visiting or mailing your request.
- Decide whether you need an audio copy (free) or a written transcript (paid vendor service) before starting the process.
- If you need a transcript and cannot afford vendor fees, prepare your UCS fee waiver application in advance.
