About This Court

Queens County Family Court handles custody, visitation, child support, abuse/neglect, and juvenile matters for the city's most ethnically diverse borough.

Queens Family Court serves a linguistically diverse population, and transcript requests may involve proceedings that used court interpreters. If your hearing was interpreted, note the language on your request form so the vendor can account for interpreter segments. The court accepts requests via EDDS, email, and mail.

Proceedings are recorded using a mix of digital and stenographic methods. Audio recordings are not provided to litigants; the court forwards digital recordings to an OCA-approved transcription vendor.

Who Can Request

Only parties to the case and their attorneys of record may request transcripts. Public access to Family Court records is restricted. Self-represented litigants may request transcripts of their own hearings.

What You Can Request

  • Certified transcript: Yes. Official transcripts are available.
  • Audio copy: No. Audio recordings are not provided to litigants.
  • On-site listening: Yes. You may request to listen to the recording at the courthouse.

Recording method: Mixed (digital audio and stenographic)

What You Need (Data Checklist)

  • Case name and index/docket number
  • Date(s) of the proceeding
  • Judge's name and courtroom/part (if known)
  • Your contact information (name, phone, address)
  • Selected transcription vendor from the approved list

Court-Specific Process

  1. Complete the Request for Transcript (Electronic Recording) form with your docket number, hearing date, judge's name, and part.
  2. Submit via EDDS, by email to the Queens Family Court address, or by mail/in-person at the Jamaica Avenue courthouse.
  3. The court locates the recording and transmits it to your chosen vendor from the OCA-approved list.
  4. The vendor issues a cost estimate, you pay the vendor directly, and the transcript is delivered to you upon completion.

Fees & Timing

Vendor rates run $1.00-$3.50 per page. Standard delivery is 30-60 days; expedited options are available at higher cost. Fee waivers are available through UCS poor person application forms (UCS-FW1 through UCS-FWO1).

Common Pitfalls

  • Failing to note that the proceeding used an interpreter, which may affect the transcript format and cost estimate.
  • Sending the request to the wrong Queens courthouse; confirm you are submitting to the Family Court transcript unit, not the Supreme or Surrogate's Court in the same complex.
  • Not following up with the vendor after the court forwards the recording; vendors may need your response to proceed with the estimate.

Before You Submit

  • Note on your form whether an interpreter was used during the hearing and in what language.
  • Confirm you are submitting to the Queens Family Court transcript unit specifically, not another court division.
  • Select a vendor from the current OCA-approved list and have their information ready before submitting your request.
