About This Court
Bronx County Family Court handles custody, visitation, child support, abuse/neglect, and juvenile delinquency matters for one of the city's busiest boroughs.
Bronx Family Court processes an extremely high volume of child welfare and support cases, which means transcript turnaround times tend to be longer than other boroughs. Requests are submitted via EDDS, email, or mail, and the court forwards digital recordings directly to an approved transcription vendor rather than providing audio to litigants.
Proceedings are recorded using a mix of digital and stenographic methods. Audio recordings are not released to litigants; instead, the court sends digital recordings to a court-approved transcription vendor who produces the written transcript.
Who Can Request
Only parties to the case and their attorneys of record may request transcripts. The public cannot access Family Court records. If you are a self-represented litigant (pro se), you may request a transcript of your own hearing by completing the Request for Transcript form.
What You Can Request
- Certified transcript: Yes. Official transcripts are available.
- Audio copy: No. Audio recordings are not provided to litigants.
- On-site listening: Yes. You may request to listen to the recording at the courthouse.
Recording method: Mixed (digital audio and stenographic)
What You Need (Data Checklist)
- Case name and index/docket number
- Date(s) of the proceeding
- Judge's name and courtroom/part (if known)
- Your contact information (name, phone, address)
- Selected transcription vendor from the approved list
Court-Specific Process
- Complete the Request for Transcript (Electronic Recording) form, including the docket number, hearing date, judge's name, and part number.
- Submit the form via the Electronic Document Delivery System (EDDS), by email to the Bronx Family Court address, or by mail/in-person delivery.
- The court locates the digital recording and forwards it to an approved transcription vendor from the OCA vendor list.
- The vendor contacts you with a cost estimate and timeline; you pay the vendor directly and receive the finished transcript.
Fees & Timing
Transcription vendors typically charge $1.00-$3.50 per page depending on turnaround speed. Standard transcripts take 30-60 days given the Bronx's high case volume. Expedited service is available at higher per-page rates. If you cannot afford transcript costs, submit a poor person application using forms UCS-FW1, UCS-FW2, UCS-FW3, and UCS-FWO1 to request a fee waiver.
Common Pitfalls
- Submitting incomplete forms without the docket number or hearing date causes delays; the Bronx transcript unit processes a high volume of requests and cannot research missing details for you.
- Expecting to receive an audio copy directly; Family Court does not release audio recordings to litigants, only to approved vendors.
- Waiting too long to request a transcript needed for an appeal; start the process immediately after the hearing, as Bronx turnaround times can be lengthy.
Before You Submit
- Confirm your docket number, hearing date, judge's name, and courtroom part are all correct on the request form.
- Verify you are using a vendor from the current OCA-approved vendor list, as the court will only forward recordings to listed vendors.
- If you need a fee waiver, prepare and file your UCS fee waiver forms before or at the same time as your transcript request.
